FAQ
About Sensors

What does PiezoBolt sensor measure?
This load sensor measures changes in axial force applied to a bolt.
By replacing the existing bolts, changes in load conditions at bolted locations can be evaluated.
With its high responsiveness, it can measure not only load fluctuations but also vibrations. -
How does it work?
The PiezoBolt has a piezoelectric sensor unit made of piezoelectric elements embedded in the lower neck of the bolt.
Measurements are made using the charge output of the piezoelectric sensor unit in response to changes in the tensile and compressive loads applied to the lower neck after the bolt is fastened. -
What size bolts are supported?
Compatible with M6, M8, M10, M12, M16 and M20 hexagon socket head cap screws. For more information please check fromSensor details page
-
What is the minimum bolt size?
The smallest size is M6.
Note that for the length, the length of the threaded part can be shortened.
For example, if the threaded part is shortened to 6 mm, the length under the neck will be about 21 mm. -
What is the maximum bolt size?
The largest size is M20.
For bolts larger than M20 Please contact us. -
Is it possible to change the length below the PiezoBolt collar?
Can be modified upon request, but for more informationPlease contact us.
-
What is the heat resistance temperature of PiezoBolt?
180 degrees Celsius for M12 and below, 70 degrees Celsius for others.
-
What is the length of the cable?
The standard length is 5 m, but extension and shortening can be adjusted. Extension cables can also be handled.
-
Can you measure the shear weight on a bolt?
It cannot measure loads in shear or torsion. It responds as a sensor, but only to changes in axial force due to loading in the shear and torsional directions.
-
Are there any tightening torque requirements?
There are no special requirements for tightening torque.
As long as the bolt is not plastically deformed, it can be fastened in the same way as a normal bolt. In addition, more reliable measurement results can be expected if the bolt tightening conditions are controlled by using a digital torque wrench. For detailed installation instructions, please contact us. -
Isn't it easy to pick up noise from the surroundings with a high sensitivity sensor?
Sensitivity can be adjusted on the measurement device. Under conditions with high sensitivity settings, even small vibrations in the surrounding environment may cause a reaction, so it is necessary to adjust the sensitivity appropriately for the purpose of measurement.
About Measurement Systems and Related Accessories
-
What kind of measurement system do you need?
Measurement can be done using a dedicated measurement system (DeveloperSesnses, etc.) developed by the manufacturer. This is convenient because measurements can be taken as soon as the sensor is connected and the measurement software is set up.
PiezoBolt is also compatible with general-purpose data loggers, but requires a separate charge amplifier unit to convert the charge output to a voltage output. -
Please tell me about the measurement method using the dedicated charge amplifier unit PiezoAmplifier.
A separate data logger is required to check the signal.By connecting PiezoBolt to the input channel of PiezoAmplifier and connecting the output channel to the voltage input channel of the data logger, the data logger can check the PiezoBolt signal.
For more information on PiezoAmplifier, including power and trigger signal handling,Please contact us. -
Please tell us about the measurement method using the dedicated measurement system DeveloperSenses.
No data logger is required; simply connect the PiezoBolt and a trigger device (such as a linear sensor) to the measurement device to immediately check the signal.

Is there a measurement system that supports wireless?
We are currently developing a prototype level product. For more information,Please contact us.
How to make the most of it
-
What are the results of PiezoBolt telling you?
The bolt load displacement associated with changes in the condition of the measurement target can be checked. From the results、
(1) Detecting the difference from the normal state can detect defects occurrence, tool breakage, and other abnormalities,
(2) Finding optimal process conditions by quantitatively quantifying process conditions,
(3) Improve the facility maintenance environment by detecting early signs of dangerous conditions. -
What mechanism is used to detect anomalies?
When a reference signal detected by PiezoBolt is defined, an abnormality is determined and judged based on the difference. By sending a feedback signal when an abnormality occurs, process control such as alarm activation or emergency stop can be performed.
-
How do I set limits or thresholds for anomaly detection?
This can be set up by comparing the measurement results under normal conditions and when abnormalities occur. If you have a specific process or abnormality pattern you are considering, we can explain it in more detail.Inquiries
